One year ago this week, an EF-3 tornado barreled through our neighborhood, missing our home by 4 blocks. We were fortunate, but so many others weren’t. The following several days were spent helping however we could, offering rides, clearing mangled debris for homeowners, and droning homes pro-bono for people’s insurance claims. Only one loss of life was reported, but hearing stories of people’s homes flying off their foundations, sometimes 100 feet or more, with them inside, or learning that one home owner only knew a tornado was coming straight towards him because he saw ‘a million birds’ all flying the same direction, just seconds before it struck, are stories of survival I’ll never forget.
